The area between the rivers Savinja and Struga, south of the Vrbje settlement, avoided urbanisation and intensive farming because of frequent flooding, which resulted in the preservation of interesting habitats, such as the remnants of the floodplain forest, hedgerows with meadows, river with gravel and a newly made pond. The majority of these habitats are rare or non-existent in the valley, which is why this area is very interesting for animals as well as plants. The pond is also used for warm water fish farming.
The pond is an extremely important habitat of numerous rare and endangered animal species, especially birds, amphibians, and dragonflies.
The learning trail, which is about 3km long, is marked and accessible throughout the year and appropriate for all age groups.
